Enhance: Making the Common Better for All.

What We Do ENHANCE?

In the past decade alone, Halifax Common land has been taken for a garage, a hospital, a temporary stadium and multiple parking lots. There are no plans to return Common land to public use. The Common is 'shrinking' by the year.

Reclaim
Common Lands

We are fortunate to have the Halifax Common in the centre of our city. It is a great place to enjoy organized activities or just to hang out and watch the world go by.
FHC is committed to ensuring the Common remains open green space for all. Just in the past decade, Common land has been taken away for a garage, hospital and a temporary stadium.
FHC lobbies the media, city council, committees of council and even the provincial government to prevent any more give aways of Common land.
We work to reclaim Common land taken by the municipal and provincial governments and support all efforts to maintain and grow the Common as green space.
Most city politicians are not aware of the many, many acres of Common land lost. We educate them and the public on the shrinking Common and why it is important to take all opportunities to reclaim lost Common land.

Why does FHC lobby the city

Most city politicians are not aware of the many, many acres of Common land lost. We educate them and the public on the shrinking Common and why it is important to take all opportunities to reclaim lost Common land. We work to reclaim Common land taken by the municipal and provincial governments and support all efforts to maintain and grow the Common as green space.
